The Castle of Good Hope 1

The Castle of Good Hope

Built in the 17th century, the imposing Castle of Good Hope is a landmark of Cape Town for over 300 years and was characterised as a National Monument in 1936. It is the oldest existing colonial building in South Africa and a popular tourist attraction. It used to be a fortress, yet nowadays it houses the headquarters of the South African Army along side a military museum and ceremonial facilities for Cape Regiments.
