A comparative study between theory and practice of the use of a water-based and a water-free hydraulic fluid and their effect on lift performance was carried out. It was found that HFC fluids are not suitable for the whole range of MRL hydraulic lift appliances. HETG fluid based on rapeseed oil performed well and found to be cost effective compared to other biodegradable fluids.
